What Are Retractable
Door Screens?

Retractable door screens are screening systems that retract into a slim aluminium cassette housing when not in use. Unlike fixed screens, they disappear completely — preserving the aesthetics and unobstructed views of your premium door openings when screening isn't needed.

Available as pleated mesh (concertina-fold) or roll-up systems, retractable screens are ideal for bifold, stacking and French doors where a permanent screen would compromise the design intent of the opening. They provide full insect protection on demand and retract neatly out of sight when you want an open, unscreened doorway.

As a Centor authorised dealer, we supply the full range of Centor retractable systems including the S1E and integrated screen options — engineered in Australia for smooth, reliable operation and long-term durability in coastal Queensland conditions.

Why Choose Retractable Screens?

01

Disappears When Not in Use

Retractable screens slide back into a slim cassette housing when you don't need them — preserving clean sight lines and the full beauty of your door openings.

02

Extra-Wide Openings (up to 7m+)

Pleated retractable systems can span openings exceeding 7 metres, making them the ideal screening solution for large bifold and stacking door configurations.

03

Smooth One-Hand Operation

Precision-engineered glide mechanisms allow effortless one-hand operation. Open or close your screen in a single fluid motion with minimal effort.

04

No Bottom Track Options

Select systems are available without a bottom track, eliminating trip hazards and maintaining a seamless threshold between indoor and outdoor living areas.

05

FAQ

Common Questions

01
How do retractable door screens work?

Retractable screens use a spring-loaded or manually operated cassette system. The screen mesh is stored inside a slim aluminium housing mounted to one side of your door opening. When needed, you simply pull the screen across the opening using a handle or integrated pull bar. When not in use, the screen retracts back into the cassette, disappearing from view entirely.

02
What is the maximum width a retractable screen can cover?

Single retractable screens typically cover openings up to around 2 metres wide. Double retractable systems (two cassettes meeting in the centre) can span approximately 4 metres. For extra-wide openings, pleated retractable systems can cover spans exceeding 7 metres, making them suitable for the largest bifold and stacking door configurations.

03
Are retractable screens suitable for bifold doors?

Yes, retractable screens are one of the best screening solutions for bifold doors. Pleated retractable systems are specifically designed for wide bifold and stacking door openings. They fold compactly when not in use and don't interfere with the operation of the doors themselves. We can advise on the best system for your specific bifold door configuration.

04
Do retractable screens need a bottom track?

It depends on the system. Some retractable screens require a slim bottom track for stability, while others use a no-track or pin-guide system that eliminates the bottom rail entirely. No-track options are popular for maintaining a seamless threshold and reducing trip hazards. We'll recommend the best option based on your door type and opening width.

05
