What Are Fall Prevention
Window Screens?
Fall prevention window screens are purpose-built safety barriers designed to prevent accidental falls from windows, particularly in multi-storey buildings. They are engineered and tested to withstand specific impact loads as required by the Australian Building Code and relevant Australian Standards.
Every screen we supply is made to measure, manufactured to fit your exact window dimensions. We use reinforced aluminium frames and high-strength mesh or bar systems designed to pass the required 250N force test — ensuring genuine compliance, not just a visual barrier.
Fall prevention screens are a legal requirement for many residential buildings in Queensland. Body corporates, landlords and homeowners have a duty of care to ensure windows above a certain height have compliant fall prevention devices installed.

Common Questions
01 Are fall prevention screens a legal requirement in Queensland?
Yes, in many cases. The Queensland Development Code and Building Code of Australia require fall prevention devices on openable windows where the floor is more than 2 metres above the surface below, and the opening is large enough for a young child to fall through. This applies to most apartments, townhouses and multi-storey homes.
02 What Australian Standard do fall prevention screens need to meet?
Fall prevention screens must withstand a 250N (approximately 25kg) force applied outward without failing or creating an opening large enough for a 125mm sphere to pass through. This test simulates the force a young child could exert against the screen. Our products are tested and certified to meet this requirement.
03 Can fall prevention screens be opened for emergency escape?
Yes. We offer hinged and removable fall prevention screens that can be opened with a key or tool for emergency egress. This meets both fall prevention and fire safety requirements. We can advise on the best configuration for your windows.
04 Who is responsible for installing fall prevention screens — the owner or body corporate?
In strata properties, the body corporate is generally responsible for common property, while lot owners are responsible for windows within their lot. Requirements vary by building and by-laws. We work with both body corporates and individual owners and can advise on responsibility in your situation.
05 Do fall prevention screens affect the resale value of a property?
Compliant fall prevention screens are a positive feature for property resale, particularly in apartments and townhouses. Buyers and their building inspectors look for compliance, and non-compliant windows can be flagged as a defect. Having screens already installed provides peace of mind for buyers.
